Burnham Yates Citizenship Award
Five years after Duane Acklie began serving as chief counsel for Crete Carrier Corporation, he purchased the company and began its transformation into one of the largest privately owned trucking firms in the country. Along with his wife, Phyllis, and their family, he’s also built companies in insurance, banking, electronic contracting, and agriculture. Duane has lived a life of service, giving generously of his time and talents to organizations such as the American Trucking Association, the U-S-O, Sallie Mae, the Lincoln and Nebraska State Chambers, the Nebraska State Highway Commission, and numerous local foundations and boards. In 2006, he was honored with the U.S. Department of Defense service medal, the highest civilian award for public service given by the Department. For his tireless service and dedication to the community, the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce was pleased to honor Duane Acklie with this year’s Burnham Yates Citizenship Award.
