Trucking Association Honors Driver of the Year

Lincoln,Neb.—The Nebraska Trucking Association recognized Rich Boyd of Omaha as Professional Truck Driver of the Year at a September 23 ceremony in Omaha. Boyd, who reports to the Crete Carrier/Shaffer Trucking terminal in Council Bluffs, has completed more than 3.5 million miles without a single violation or citation. He has been with the company for 27 years.

Boyd has been Nebraska’s Driver of the Month three times since 1997. While still an independent contractor, he was twice named Owner-Operator of the Year at Shaffer Trucking. He was named the Council Bluffs terminal’s Fleet Driver of the Year earlier this year. Boyd received the Wessel All-Around Driver award from the association in 2008. The award recognizes the highest levels of professionalism, industry knowledge and attitude. “Rich is really driven by the idea of furthering safety and camaraderie in the trucking industry,” says Terminal Manager Mike Shafer, who nominated him.
