Looking back on 2017

Thank you, Drivers.

As we review 2017, we look back on what our drivers had to say. After running a series of posts on Facebook, we have a lot to be thankful for.

Your kind words and heart-touching stories represent the family atmosphere here at Crete Carrier. In an overwhelming response, you, our drivers, expressed your delight in finding a home at Crete Carrier Corporation and working with a great team. It is important to us that we foster a close-knit environment in which everyone is able to succeed. At the center of our company are our drivers, and without their individual success, Crete Carrier’s success would diminish. We appreciate what everyone has done to ensure Crete Carrier’s prosperity over the past year. It has been a great team effort and we would especially like to thank our drivers who work hard every day. You are truly some of the best in the industry.

Check out a few of the driver responses; maybe you’ll find your own words.

In Your own Words

“I have found a home with Crete Carrier after being with the company since 2005. I enjoy the ability to be productive and make a good living while working with a great team of people in every department.” – JEFF BARKER

“Wish I would have come here first. The pay and equipment are great, but the people I encounter, whether dispatch or in the shop, are all professional and well informed.” – PHILLIP FLANDERS

“I feel like one of the family here. Great people in the office and fellow drivers. Great pay, great benefits, great equipment. Crete is my home.”- ROBERT LARSON

“Life is good here!” – JOHN MANCEBO

“Crete Carrier Corporation is a great company with good people in the offices and on the road.” – BILL DAISEY

“I have driven with Crete Carrier for over 11 years. It is one of the best companies I have ever worked for.” – GARY MATTOCKS

“Shaffer Trucking provides security for my family. It is a company that really cares about the quality of their drivers on the road.” – CARRIE WARD

“I am not a driver but my husband is. I rode with him for 7 months and in that time I saw how Crete Carrier goes above and beyond to help the drivers. They help out in anyway possible. When my grandfather passed the company immediately got us a load back home so we could attend the funeral. They are an amazing company and do everything they can to keep their drivers happy and safe.” – JACKLYNN LEHMAN

We also want to take a look back over the accomplishments we made as a company in 2017.

Safety First and Foremost

One such accomplishment that stands out is our continued commitment to safety. As many of you know, our first principle of success is “safety first and foremost.” Thanks to all of you we had one of our safest years yet. One area that we really excelled in regards to safety was DOT Preventable accidents, with one of our lowest percentages on record. In June of this year, our drivers had over 43 million miles and only had one DOT preventable accident.

“That is just simply remarkable! In my over 15 years here at Crete and Shaffer, I have never seen that.” said Tim Aschoff, president and COO of Crete Carrier Corporation.

Growth, Improvement, and Success

We’ve also continued to grow and better ourselves in 2017. Crete Carrier and Shaffer Trucking broke ground on a new terminal in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, that will replace our New Kingstown terminal. Even though the new terminal is right across the street from the old terminal, it will have a state-of-the-art maintenance and office buildings. We are so excited to be nearing completion of this project and are looking forward to opening the buildings up to you in January 2018.

We also had a great year when it came to overall success as a company, and that was reflected in the annual profit sharing contribution. This year the company contributed $8 million to the profit sharing program. That money goes directly into our employees retirement fund, and highlights our appreciation for the hard work you put into this company every year. Your success is important to us and we believe you should get a piece of the pie.

We can’t end our 2017 review without congratulating Hunt Transportation on celebrating 90 years and Shaffer Trucking of 80 years of business. Without committed drivers these anniversaries would not be possible.

As the year comes to a close, we reflect on the fact that it takes a team working together and supporting each other to provide exemplary customer service. Crete Carrier, Shaffer Trucking, and Hunt Transportation would like to express our gratitude to all of our drivers for all that they do. We look forward to another year of success, collaboration, and adventure with you!
