Duane Acklie, chairman
Duane was born and raised in Madison County, Nebraska. He received his Bachelor’s and a law degree from the University of Nebraska. After graduation, he spent two years in Germany as an Army Officer. After returning to the U.S., he practiced law in Lincoln, Nebraska for 12 years. He then embarked on a business career in truck transportation, banking, real estate, and related businesses.
He also gave of his time to head the Lincoln and Nebraska Chambers of Commerce, American Trucking Associations, and other organizations. Duane also headed many charitable fund drives, including for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, as well as serving on the board of directors of the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Duane and his wife Phyl also serve on the Board of the Bush Presidential Center at Southern Methodist University (SMU).
Duane was privileged to serve for five years as Chair of the international Board of Governors of the United Services Organization (USO). He chaired and assisted in the privatization of Sallie Mae (Student Loan Marketing Association) and was appointed as a Senior Advisor to the U.S. Mission to the United Nations and a Public Delegate to the United Nations. He served for 27 years on the Nebraska State Highway Commission. Duane has been the recipient of numerous awards, including the U.S. Department of Defense Medal for Distinguished Public Service, the highest civilian award given for public service.
Duane and wife Phyl now spend their time in Naples, Florida and continue to enjoy traveling. Duane presently serves on several corporate boards.
Tonn Ostergard, President & CEO
Tonn is president and CEO of Crete Carrier Corporation, a privately owned Lincoln, Nebraska-based transportation, and logistics company that employs over 6,000 associates with 15 terminal locations across the United States operating 5,600 power units and 13,000 trailers. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln in 1981 and then went on to graduate from Harvard Business School’s Owner/President Management Program in 1991. Tonn spent five years in Public Accounting with KPMG prior to joining Crete as CFO in 1986 and was promoted to CEO of Crete in 1992. Tonn serves on the boards of directors of Union Bank and Trust Company, Ameritas Life Insurance and Ameritas Mutual Holding Company, and Nebco, Inc. He also serves as Member of the Executive Committee and Director of the American Trucking Association and is a past Chair of the Nebraska Young Presidents Organization. Civic activities include immediate past chair of the University of Nebraska Foundation, Vice Chair of Nebraska Innovation Campus, past Chair of the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce and past board member of the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Tonn also chaired the capital campaign that raised a record $84 million to fund a new building for the Business School. He received the Business Leadership Award from the College in 2015,and the University of Nebraska Young Alumnus Award in 1994. He is married to Holly who is also active in the Company. Holly also serves on the boards of directors for the Southeast Community College Educational Foundation, Acklie Charitable Foundation, Ak-Sar-Ben Scholarship Committee and Clinic with a Heart. They have two children, Halley and Winston, who joined Crete Carrier in 2014.
Tim Aschoff, COO – Crete Carrier Corporation; President – Shaffer
Tim Aschoff is the Chief Operating Officer for Crete Carrier Corporation and President of its Shaffer Trucking division. Crete Carrier is a privately owned Lincoln, Nebraska-based transportation and logistics company that employs over 6,000 associates with 15 terminal locations across the United States operating 5,600 power units and 13,000 trailers. Tim graduated summa cum laude from Creighton University School of Business in 1995 and summa cum laude from Creighton University School of Law in 1997. Tim started his career as a Judicial Clerk for Honorable Lyle Strom, U.S. District Court, Nebraska and then was in private practice and corporate practice for three years. In 2002, Tim started with Crete Carrier Corporation as General Counsel, adding management duties to his role throughout the years, ultimately becoming Chief Operating Officer for Crete Carrier in 2011 and Shaffer Trucking President in 2015. Tim serves on the boards of the Nebraska Trucking Association, the American Trucking Association Litigation Council, and the Pius X Foundation. He and his wife Linda have two girls, Audrey and Jillian, and two boys, Ryan and Nicholas.
