What makes up the trucking industry?
Many people’s idea of the trucking industry might be what they see on the interstate: tractors, trailers and the drivers who guide the big rigs down the road. Though these are the foundation of the industry, trucking companies count on fleet managers, logistics personnel, diesel techs, office staff, safety managers and everyone in between to keep those trucks rolling. That’s a lot of jobs for American workers. In fact, according to the American Trucking Association (ATA), the industry provided 3.5 million truck driving jobs alone in 2017. Crete Carrier Corporation has about 5,000 drivers, and almost 1,200 office and shop personnel. Within the Crete Carrier family, we work together to grow together and hope to steadily increase those numbers.
Trucks deliver (almost anything)
Did you know that roughly 70% of all goods in the United States are transported by trucks? Be it raw materials from mines to factories or finished goods from factories to retailers, we have an important role in the way our nation works. Even when products are transported by rail, air or ship; trucks are often involved in one or more steps in the process. Without your contribution to the industry, we could not go to the grocery store when we run out of milk or need to refill our prescriptions.
Virtually every sector of the U.S. economy relies on the trucking industry. According to the American Trucking Association (ATA), each year more than 700 billion dollars in shipped goods are transported by trucks. In addition, our industry provided annual revenues of 650 billion dollars, or roughly 84% of the revenue of the entire commercial transportation industry. The trucking industry is essential to keep our country moving and employs millions of Americans with a wide variety of skills. Isn’t it exciting to be able to say you have a part in that?
Employment Opportunities
As our economy grows the need for trucking is increasing rapidly. Because of this, there is a high demand for drivers and support staff, people like you. At Crete Carrier we ebb and flow with the industry, which means when the industry grows, so do we. If you’re already part of our team, thank you for all you do. If not we’d like you to consider joining us. Our Crete and Shaffer OTR drivers start out earning $0.49 to $0.55 per practical mile. Our top end earners average $78,300 a year and our flatbed drivers for Hunt Transportation earn from $0.48 per mile to $0.51 per mile. What happens if we stop?
Because trucking impacts almost every other industry in the United States, most of the goods we use daily would be unavailable without trucking. There would be no transportation of materials to factories, so there would be no products to sell. Within a day of the trucking industry shutting down, delivery of important goods such as food and medicine would stop. Hospitals and grocery stores would begin to run out of supplies. You would stop receiving mail, and gas stations would run low on fuel. Without the trucking industry and your commitment to it, America would shut down.
We thank you.
